On January 1st, the Nashville Predators will face off against the Dallas Stars at the site of the annual Cotton Bowl for the annual Bridgestone Winter Classic. This is the “holy grail” of outdoor hockey games in the eyes of the modern-day hockey fan. It is always the most anticipated event around the hockey world throughout the months of November to January.
Today, the fans have even more to be excited about with the release of both the team’s “sweaters” for this marquee match-up. In collaboration with Adidas, both teams will hit the ice with a throwback, retro type uniform. The Predators come out with a nostalgic look, paying tribute to the late Dixie Flyers of the EHL, who played out of Nashville in the years 1962-1971.
Paying homage to Texas’ hockey history, the Stars will celebrate the new year in style as they unveil their Texas-themed “victory green” jerseys. The official release had no clear pointer that this decision was based on another Dallas team, just Texas hockey history in general. Trying to get more of a “vintage” or old feel to the uniforms, the team will be wearing beige pants and gloves. This gives it more of a true outdoor hockey game feel to it.
This game definitely has some buzz going into it, with the teams being division rivals and all. Also, Dallas knocked the Preds out in the first round of the playoffs last year. Nashville and Dallas, both looking to be back in the playoffs again this year, this is just another step on the road to get there. As they say, “look good, feel good, play good.” I’m sure both teams will be doing so on New Year’s Day, 2020.
